Trans PULSE project

The Trans PULSE Project is a community-based research project aimed at assessing and addressing health determinants and service provision and access issues for trans people across the province.

The Project is currently being carried forth with trans community members in partnership with The Ontario HIV Treatment Network, TGStation, The 519 Community Centre, The University of Western Ontario, and the Sherbourne Health Centre.

More information about the project can be found at Trans Health Research Project

A significant early step that the PULSE Project is taking are a series of community soundings, a sort of focus group, in various centres across the Province:

Mon. Jul. 24th 6:00pm - The 519 Church Street Community Centre, Toronto

Wed. Jul. 26th 6:00pm - Sherbourne Health Centre, Toronto

Tue. Aug. 1st 7:00pm - Pink Triangle Services, Ottawa

Thu. Aug. 3rd 7:00pm - Out on the Shelf, Guelph

Wed. Aug. 9th 5:30pm - Queen West Community Health Centre, Toronto

There will also be a sounding at St.Andrew's Church in North Bay. The final date and time is TBD.

At the Sherbourne sounding on the 26th, there will be separate groups for persons of FTM and MTF experience, respectively. There will also be a separate SOFFA(Significant Others, Friends, Family, and Allies) sounding at the Sherbourne as well.

All facilitators (except at the SOFFA sounding) are trans-identified. Additionally, each sounding attendee will receive $20 for their time and a full meal will be provided. The sounding (with the exception of the SOFFA sounding) is open exclusively to trans people and people of trans experience.

The purpose of these Soundings is to get a diverse cross-section of trans lives and experience, particularly as it relates to health and the current state of services available in, and to, different communities. This information will be used to shape the subsequent stages of the research project.

We encourage all trans people and people of trans experience to attend a sounding and to help shape this community-based effort and the subsequent research and action the Trans PULSE Project takes. We also want SOFFAs out on the 26th!

Please print out and forward this poster liberally. The more voices we hear from the better!

If you have any questions about the soundings or about the Project - or are concerned about accessibility
and/or language (e.g. ASL) barriers - please contact the Project co-coordinators:
