bureaucracy at its best

Government decision making shows its ugly inhumane face yet again. When I worked within the system, I tried to find creative ways to work around some of the more draconian policies and procedures to help real people in real situations.

Just two weeks before the OutGames are to begin a good portion of the participants are not getting their visas… From CBC

“Noel St. Pierre, an immigration lawyer in Montreal, told CBC that several of those rejected entry into Canada were told it was because they have criminal records. St. Pierre said he was investigating the nature of the criminal records, since many of the invited athletes face prosecution in their home countries for being homosexual.”

Sort it out for gawd’s sake!

Well, while Canada’s immigration is giving our peeps a hard time lookie lookie at what the States are doing! Okay, the HIV law is more draconian than anything I ever came across in my career but hey they are waiving it for the athletes and maybe that can serve as a spotlight for them to take another look at its legitimacy.

I wonder who is going to win the competition for highest turnout for the 2006 Queer Olympics? Canada or the US? Any bets?

hey DK, this is a classic example of baaaaaaaaad project management! Mitigate the risk by dealing with the problem *before* it affects your results -concept! I hope the OutGames committee learns from this glaring oversight.
